5. Magazine Restrictions
It is illegal to possess a detachable magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds in New Jersey.
Any semiautomatic rifle with a fixed magazine in excess of 10 rounds is legally considered an assault weapon in New Jersey, and is thus illegal to own in the state.
Semiautomatic .22 caliber rim fire rifles which feed from a fixed tubular magazine (e.g. the Marlin Model 60) are explicitly exempt from the aforementioned magazine capacity restrictions.
A semiautomatic shotgun with a magazine capacity in excess of 6 rounds is legally considered an an assualt weapon
